PANTOMIME AT ROCHESTOWN
An exceedingly large and delighted audience greeted the production of the juvenile pantomime 'Aladdin,' in the Temperance Hall at Rochestown on Sunday evening. Previously produced in the Father Mathew Hall, Cork , "Aladdin" was most successful and it was little wonder that its staging at Rochestown on Sunday was eagerly looked forward to, The hall was packed by an appreciative audience, which demonstrated at frequent intervals its pleasure at the talent displayed by the juveniles. Amongst those present were - The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Very Rev. Fr. Pias, Guardian, Rochestown; Very Rev Fr. Fiacre, Cork; Very Rev. Dr. Edwin, Cork; Rev. Fr. Martin, Rochestown ; Rev. Fr. Dominick, do ; Rev. Fr. Francis, do ; Very Rev. Fr. Joseph, Cork ; Rev. Fr Clement, do ; Rev. Fr. Bonaventure, Rochestown. Preceding the pantomime, Misses Geraldine Lester, B, Barrett, May Lester, K. Forde. Madge Regan, K. Murphy , K. O'Brien, and T. Russell charmed the audience with an eight-handed Irish reel, which had to be repeated. Miss Helen Barry, Rochestown, and Miss G. Lester, Passage, followed with an Irish hornpipe, which was performed with much skill and talent. In the pantomime, Miss Josephine Walsh, as "Aladdin", was delightful, while as "Princess Sadi" Miss Nellie Kelleher made a charming impression, and as an encore to some of her numbers she had to respond twice. Misses F. Lee and S. Phillips won applause by their graceful dancing. Miss Madeline O'Flynn, as the Magician, was exceedingly clever, while the part of the Geni, sustained by Miss F. Leamy, was another clever performance. Miss B. Reamy, as "Rosy Pearl," was also very successful, and in a Hungarian dance Miss Susie Phillips and Miss Flossie Lee were excellent. Miss Nancy McCarthy was splendid in her character songs, "The Hobble Skirt" and "Kilkenny Cats," and she had to respond to many recalls. In the later item, Miss Maureen McHugh and Miss Eily McCarthy were very capable assistants. The chorus was excellent, whilst special mention should be made of the orchestra, which was delightful.
At the finish, Rev. Fr. Francis thanked the children for their very creditable performance, whilst his best thanks were due to Mrs. J. F. Lyons, their trainer.
Mrs. Lyons subsequently treated the audience to two delightful numbers in "The Wearing of the Green" and Tosti's "Good-bye."
