Dear Father Benjamin,
No. 7 Fr Mathew Street.
Some time ago, Father Senan discussed with me the possibility of purchasing the above premises for the purpose of erecting an external fire escape to Father Mathew Hall as was then required by the Corporation and i made enquiries from the Solicitors for the owner, Messrs. Guest Lane Williams & Co.
They have now replied asking £2,000 for their client's interest which consists of a leasehold interest for a term of 120 years from 1938 subject to the annual rent of £8.50. The premises are sub-let to Daniel Sheehan at the weekly rent of £1. Landlord paying rates but an application is at present before the Court to have this rent increased.
My impression is that it was subsequently decided not to proceed with the suggested purchase of this house, since the requirements of Cork Corporation have, I understand, been satisfied, both as to the Theatre and as to the Sunday night Bingo sessions.
If this is the position, perhaps you will please let me know.
Yours sincerely,
DALY HAYES AND COMPANY
