CHEH Talks at the 2012 Canadian Economics Association (CEA)

The Canadian Network for Economic History (CNEH) is pleased to announce that it will be sponsoring two sessions on Saturday 9th of June at the 46th Meetings of the Canadian Economics Association (CEA) at the University of Calgary, Alberta. The CNEH wishes to extend an invitation to all those at this year’s CEA to come to the CNEH sessions. Session CNEH I is titled Trade, Transport, Manufacturing and Wealth During the Golden Age of Globalization. Session CNEH II is titled The Role of Government in Economic History. Alan G. Green Memorial Fund for Economic History at Queen’s

Alan Green died on November 3 2010, in Kingston, Ontario, at the age of 78. In his memory, and on behalf of Alan’s family, friends, colleagues and students, the Department of Economics at Queen’s University has established the Alan G. Green Memorial Fund to support research and teaching in economic history. More information …

Economic History in Canadian Universities: A Survey

by Douglas McCalla and Shawn Day (University of Guelph) This paper contributes to the discussion of the future of the teaching of economic history by documenting the current circumstances of economic history in Canada as represented by course offerings and faculty lists. Although economic history is sometimes done in interdisciplinary programs, business programs, political economy, and disciplines such as geography, demography, sociology, and anthropology, we focused our survey on the websites of history and economics departments across Canada and on related university websites (including timetables and course calendars).
