Dr James O’Sullivan of UCC’s Department of Digital Humanities was recognised at this year’s Cork Ambassador Awards, hosted by the Cork Convention Bureau, for hosting the Electronic Literature Organization Conference & Media Arts Festival in July.
The annual Electronic Literature Organization (ELO) conference was held at University College Cork this summer, the first time that the major international gathering of scholars and practitioners working at the intersection between literature and new media aesthetics was brought to Ireland. Chaired by Dr James O’Sullivan, the conference was worth an estimated €432,000 to Cork city. The ELO2019 Programme Committee was comprised of Dr O’Sullivan, Dr Órla Murphy, Prof Lee Jenkins, David Murphy, Dr Donna Alexander, and Dr Pedro Nilsson-Fernàndez, while Chris Clarke, Senior Curator at the Glucksman, co-curated an accompanying exhibition at the Glucksman Gallery. The awards ceremony, wherein conference chairs were presented with a piece of Cork Crystal, took place at the Carrigaline Court Hotel on December 3rd. James O’Sullivan and Shawn Day attended the event on behalf of the Department.
